What is the second trimester of pregnancy:The second trimester is the second phase of pregnancy which lasts from week 13 to week 27, i.e. almost 15 weeks. This time is often called the “golden period” of pregnancy because the symptoms of the first trimester like morning sickness reduce and the mother feels more energy. The baby’s growth is fast in this phase and its organs and body parts develop. Let’s understand this in simple Hindi-English mix.
Second Trimester Overview
- This period starts from week 13 and lasts till week 27.
- Baby’s features like fingers, toes, and facial features start becoming clear.
- Baby’s movements (quickening) can be felt during this time, usually between 16-20 weeks.
- Mom’s bump starts becoming visible, and body adjusts to pregnancy.
Symptoms of the Second Trimester
In the second trimester the hormones give a little stability, but some new symptoms also appear. Here are the common symptoms, in simple Hindi-English mix:
- Enlargement of the stomach and bump (Growing belly)
When the uterus grows, the stomach (bump) becomes clearly visible. Clothes start becoming tight!
wear loose, comfortable clothes, like maternity dresses or stretchy pants.
- Feeling the baby’s movements (Quickening)
Around 16-20 weeks the baby’s movements like fluttering or light kicks can be felt.
This is very special! If movements are not felt by 20 weeks, then talk to the doctor.
Energy Badhna (Increased Energy)
If morning sickness and fatigue decrease, you may feel more energetic.
Do light exercise like walking or prenatal yoga, but do not overdo it.
- Back Pain or Body Good
Back pain or muscle good can occur due to weight and posture changes in the stomach.
Maintain proper posture, and ask the doctor about safe stretches or exercises.
- –Skin Changes (Skin Changes)
Due to hormones, dark patches (melasma) or stretch marks can appear on the skin.
Linea nigra (dark line on the stomach) can also appear.
Use moisturizer or cocoa butter and wear sunscreen.
- Nosebleeds or Gums Bleeding
Due to increased blood flow, there may be a little bleeding from the nose or bleeding from the gums while brushing. Use a soft toothbrush and consult a doctor if this is severe.
- Food Cravings or Increased Appetite
You may feel more hungry as your baby is growing. Cravings may continue.
Eat healthy food like fruits, veggies, lentils, and whole grains. Avoid junk food.
- Constipation or Acidity (Digestive Issues)
Pressure in the uterus can slow down digestion, which can lead to constipation or heartburn. Eat fibre-rich diet (like oats, vegetables) and drink lots of water.
